Virginia Tech’s Benjamin Knapp will join the Seattle Hokies this June to talk about research being conducted to create meaningful links between human-computer interaction, universal design, and various forms of creativity. Ben Knapp is a professor of Computer Science at VT and is also the director of the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT). Join us for this family friendly event to fellowship with Hokies from around the Puget Sound. Note this is 4/15 because the 16th is Easter. We’ll meet at the Greenlake Pool House at 11 am to start and then meet at Zoeyogurt at 6900 East Green Lake Way N after we make our way around. We repacked 13,000 lb of food at Food Lifeline
Thank you to the Hokies who joined us for our annual day of service! Embodying Ut Prosim, we helped sort and pack food at Food Lifeline, a nonprofit food distribution center that provides nutritious food to hungry, low-income people. We had a great time and plan to do this again in the future. See photos on our website here.
Hokie Chili Cook-Off

Come hang out with the Seattle Hokies for the Second Annual Chili Cook-Off. Compete with your favorite recipe or stop by to pick your favorite; there will be prizes! Find out more information online or the Seattle Hokies Facebook group!

Thanks to all who joined us on January 14, 2016 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Belltown Pub for a chapter networking event to highlight all the Hokie business owners in the area! This event included a meet and greet followed by a Q&A with a panel of entrepreneurs from around Seattle who discussed the advantages and challenges of owning your own business. Attendees enjoyed a night of sharing experiences, advice, and promoting professional Hokies and their businesses.

Take part in this Virginia Tech day of service as we embody our motto Ut Prosim, meaning “that I may serve.” Get your hands dirty as we help in the garden at Seattle Community Farm, which provides produce for local food banks. Seattle Community Farm is located just west of 4015 MLK Way, Seattle, WA 98108. Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood. It is also easily accessible by public transportation. Directions and Map. For those less interested in driving, you have the option of taking the water taxi from Pier 50 to West Seattle followed by a shuttle from the dock to Alki Beach. The water taxi leaves downtown Seattle every hour on the 30 and leaves West Seattle every hour on the hour. More information is available here.
April 26 – Spring Game
The People’s Pub in Ballard opened up just for the Hokies to come together and watch the spring game. Virginia Tech won! (And lost.)
April 16 – Hokie Run and Social Time
We hosted a Remembrance Walk/Run at Green Lake Park on April 16th to remember the Hokies lost and those who survived the tragic event. On this rainy evening, Hokies joined together for a lap around Greenlake then celebrated the lives of our friends and family over frozen yogurt.
April 5 – Big Event
We appreciate all of those that joined for a day of giving back to the local community! On April 5th, we headed over to the Seattle Community Farm located in Rainier Valley to work on a small urban farm that grows produce to share with the local community and food banks.
April 4 – Hokie’s Respect Happy Hour
Thank you to all of those able to join our first Hokie Respect Happy Hours! On April 4th, we met up with our ACC friend from North Carolina at the Elysian Brewery in Capitol Hill.

Hokies gathered for drinks at the Pyramid Alehouse, Brewery & Restaurant (1201 First Avenue South, Seattle, WA) and brought non-perishable food to helps those in need in our local community.

Hokies escaped pre-holiday madness and joined the Greater Seattle Hokies for a fun run around Greenlake and a few drinks at Duck Island (7317 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA).

Summer Picnic and Silent Auction on August 17, 2013
The Seattle Hokies hosted the annual summer picnic at Alki Beach. Hokies joined for an afternoon in the sun and on the water and made money for our local scholarship by bidding on silent auction items.
2013 Community Service at Marra Farms
Greater Seattle area Hokies volunteered at Marra Farms during the Big Event in April of 2013 and again on June 29, 2013. Out work included weeding, planing, building tresses, harvesting, and other fun farm chores. All food grown at Marra Farm goes to local schools and food banks. It is a great opportunity to give back to the community, enjoy fresh air, learn more about gardening, and have fun.
